Bright Open Concept Kitchen Remodel

The client approached us wanting to transform a closed-off, builder-grade kitchen into a bright, open kitchen renovation that felt more inviting and functional for everyday use. Located in Central Florida, the existing space had dark wood cabinets, limited prep space, and a layout that didn’t support gathering or flow. Their goal was simple: create a kitchen that felt lighter, more spacious, and better suited for entertaining family and friends.

What we did

To achieve this, we reimagined the layout by introducing a large central island that anchors the space and provides generous seating. We replaced the original dark cabinetry with white shaker-style cabinets to instantly brighten the room and create a more timeless foundation. A marble-look quartz countertop was selected for durability and visual softness, paired with stainless steel appliances for a clean, modern contrast. We also incorporated warm wood flooring to balance the crisp white finishes and added a series of brushed metal pendant lights above the island to define the space. As part of Marilou Stones’ design approach, every material was chosen to feel cohesive, practical, and easy to maintain for Florida living.

The result

The result is a bright, open kitchen that feels expansive, welcoming, and highly functional. The new layout encourages connection, whether preparing meals or hosting guests, while the updated finishes reflect a more modern, livable aesthetic. This kitchen renovation is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can completely reshape how a home feels and functions, something Marilou Stones brings to every project across Central Florida.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a kitchen renovation take in Central Florida?

Most kitchen renovations take between 8–12 weeks once construction begins, depending on the scope and material availability. For this project, we carefully planned the layout and selections in advance to keep the timeline efficient while ensuring every detail was properly executed.

The addition of the large central island and the switch to white shaker cabinets had the biggest impact. These two changes opened up the space visually and functionally, giving the kitchen a brighter feel and significantly improving how the homeowners use the space daily.

Yes, white cabinetry works especially well in Central Florida homes because it reflects natural light and helps spaces feel cooler and more open. We often recommend durable, easy-to-clean finishes so homeowners can maintain that fresh look without extra effort.

We selected a marble-look quartz countertop for this kitchen renovation. It offers the elegant appearance of natural stone but with greater durability, stain resistance, and lower maintenance, making it ideal for busy households.

We focus on balanced design choices. In this project, we paired classic white shaker cabinetry with modern lighting and clean-lined finishes. By layering timeless elements with subtle contemporary touches, we create kitchens that feel current without quickly going out of style.
